Vacancies & Veterinary Careers at Carisbrooke Vets
We’re always open to hearing from qualified vets, nurses and support team professionals who are interested in joining our practice.
Our branches in Newport, Sandown and Freshwater have been providing high quality veterinary care since the 1960s, and as an Isle of Wight practice we’re naturally surrounded by beautiful coastlines and views.
Our team members enjoy a varied caseload, and we offer a range of consultations and services such as hydrotherapy and acupuncture at our Sandown and Freshwater branches.
Our main Newport surgery is a mixed site with outstanding facilities, allowing us to offer a wide range of small animal, exotic and farm services to our patients and clients.
If you’re interested in emergency and critical care, we also run our own in-house out of hours service from this branch.
If you have a passion for small animal and exotic care, our dedicated small animal branches in Sandown and Freshwater also offer a range of consultations, allowing our team to really get to know local clients and pets.
We believe that continued learning and development opportunities are vital, and actively encourage our team members to work towards extra qualifications and certificates.
As part of the VetPartners group of practices, we can offer a generous CPD allowance and the support of a wider network of practices in the UK and beyond.
We’re proud to be an approved veterinary nurse training practice, and can take in veterinary students for extra mural study. We’re also able to offer work experience opportunities for local over 16s.

Farm Vet Vacancy
We are looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic vet to support our wonderful farm clients on the beautiful Isle of Wight.
Maybe you’d like to work part time? We can accommodate a 3 or 4 day working week alongside our 1 in 4 out of hours rota.
The Isle of Wight is a UNESCO biosphere – recognised as a unique natural and cultural environment. It’s a great place to live and work – with surf, sea swimming, mountain bike riding and sea eagles on your doorstep as well as easy access to cross channel ports, airports and direct trains from Portsmouth and Southampton to central London.
We’d love to hear from you whatever your aspirations – whilst ideally we are looking for someone with some experience who’d like to drive the farm side of the practice forward – we are also open to enquiries from newer graduates and are committed to supporting all members of clinical staff through a fantastic Graduate Development Programme (see more info here: https://vetpartners.co.uk/graduates/) as well as our links to the wider Vet Partners community UK wide.
The farm side of our practice looks after the 10,000 cattle on the Island – mostly beef as well as about 30,000 breeding ewes. Many of our clients are working towards greater sustainability in their enterprises and we believe that as Vets we have a big role to play in empowering and supporting these farms in their transition. We run regular client meetings – with recent topics including integrated parasite management, dung beetle safaris (!), anti-microbial stewardship and heifer selection. We would love you to do more of this – and will support you through a generous CPD budget as well as the usual farm practice toys. We’ve also taken groups of clients on days and weekends away to the mainland visiting progressive farms further afield and supporting them in translating knowledge into practice once they get back home. Our uptake of Annual Health and Welfare Review visits has been impressive and we are committed to continuing to provide this high level of proactive care going forward. We are in a 48 month Tb testing parish and are currently training an ATT so your time can be spent on clinical work with very little routine testing. Out of hours is currently a quiet 1 in 4 rota.
We also treat other species including goats, camelids, the occasional pig and back yard chickens. The practice employs 16 vets with a wide variety of specialisms so if you’re secretly harbouring a passion for raptors, capuchin monkeys or tapirs, we’d be happy to accommodate that – if not then there’s no pressure to see the multitude of exotics that pass through the clinic!
Clinical freedom is an important part of our ethos – but we also benefit from the support of the wider Vet Partners community which brings a wide range of employment benefits which we would be happy to discuss. We welcome informal enquiries – either to the Clinical Directors or the current post holder. We’d also love you to come and see us for yourself – come and spend a few days on this beautiful Island and we’d be happy to show you how we work as well as some of the things we think are so great about our island and our clients.
Please feel free to email with informal enquiries in the first instance to [email protected]
Or submit your cv and a covering letter, telling us what you could bring to this role – and how we might be able to work together to create a fulfilling and stimulating role.
